Sports Motivation Chicago has hit the airways! Openyonated.com had the opportunity to join this cast not only for their inaugural episode but their second one as well. Most folks know I’m not a big sports fanatic but I do enjoy sports like hockey, boxing, etc you know the ones where you can get into a fight and it be okay LOL However, I do know a little about sports. First thing things first, this is a great ensemble cast. They vibe will together. No it’s not all pretend. You know on television it appears that people get along well but off camera they don’t like each other? That’s not the case with this group of individuals. When the live feed disconnects and the camera is put away they’re still cool. There appear to be no big I’s and little U’s. All of the gentlemen add to the show equally and are well versed in their areas. It’s a fun atmosphere to be in and it’s always good to see men working together in any aspect. Sports Motivation runs every Thursday night at 6pm on urbanbroadcastmedia.com with Jus Mic, Kent Wade, Savant Furlow and Anthony Moore. Be sure to check the show out ! Austin Community Fest
As the Summer comes to an end community festivals are in full swing! On Saturday August 13th Openyonated.com had the opportunity to visit the Austin Community Fest for the first time. First Impression are definitely lasting! Upon entering the fest I received a warm welcome from greeters, making people feel welcome is the first step in success. If I walk into a business and I am not greeting within the first few minutes I leave immediately it signals that they are not focused enough on greeting their customers/visitors. It was a very lively event with food, entertainment, health resources, various community organizations and partners. They even had horse rides and a petting zoo. The event was definitely spirit filled and the participants seemed to be having a good time. Of course there were no major news entities on the scene to capture the event which is why we try to make it our business to report on the wonderful things in communities that do not get much press. If you know of any businesses or local acts that you think should be featured be sure to hit us up and let us know. We can be found on all social media at @MrOpenyonated
Why hide the truth?
My awesome friend Pilar shared this video on social media today. It was a video from FOX News out of all people sharing truth about the history of Black people that is not taught in the school systems or talked about in general. It leaves us asking the question why isn’t it being talked about? Many people will give many different answers but it’s my opinion that it isn’t taught so that a false narrative can continue. If you give the same amount of attention to the Black people who were involved in building this country you have to stop just painting us as slaves. Take a look at the video and give us your opinion!
Book Review “Throw Me to the Wolves” By D.M. Shields
It’s rare that I finish a book the same day that I receive it but that was the case when I received my copy of “Throw Me to the Wolves” It was an easy read, not too long or too short but just right. I found it very refreshing to read a piece of work that seemed totally transparent especially given the subject matter. Often times men appear to hold back in order to protect their egos but this did not appear to be the case with D.M. Shields. I believe that his story has shed light on matters that are rarely discussed but definitely need to be. In addition, I believe that there is a healing in this project for anyone that has felt like they were in the midst of wolves. D. M. Shields can be found on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/deangelo.shields?fref=ts and Instagram at d-m-shields His book is available on Amazon.com for purchase! We look look forward to his next project!
The qualities that you speak should be the qualities that you have.
Who are you going to take to a fight?
So who do you take to a fight ? Would you take someone who has a reputation of running off when the battle got rough? Would you take someone who will switch sides? Mr. Openyonated discusses taking the wrong type of people into a battle.
African, Jamaican & African American Networking Performance Showcase
When you have an opportunity to absorb culture you need to take advantage of it and that is exactly what Openyonated.Com did. Bless Jamel Robertson hosted this wonderful showcase located at the 59th Street Harbor. It was an evening filled with song, poetry, affirmations, tribal face and body painting, and great cuisine. It was a powerful family centered event that is definitely needed in times such as these. Kudos to Dr Robertson for having the foresight to put together such an event. Check out the video footage below to get a peek into the event!
We need to talk to our children !
Given the times that we are experiencing in America as Black and Brown people we need to have honest discussions with our children about racism, prejudice and the ugly history of America that is not being taught in their schools.
