The airwaves are full of musical messages, some are good for nodding your head others for busting a move and then there is the music that is not only enjoyable but includes a message and is uplifting. “Black Determination” by Abdullah takes me back to the “Golden Age” of hip hop where music often included uplifting messages. The vibe kind of puts me in a Summer mood, and I think that those who grew up when Hip Hop was in its prime will enjoy it. The project leads with the single Black Man Determined and accompanying video which gives props and encouragement to those Brothas out there on their daily grind making things happen. The single is very timely in this anti man climate and does well with uplifting the kings at work. The album consists of all the topics that many say men should be vocal and out front about. It explores the battle of sexes, violence in the community, Black unity, fatherhood and much more! This is my 2nd album from Abdullah and like the first it is enjoyable. It’s packed with content and conversation pieces. Make sure you grab it and give it spin! To keep up with Abdullah you can follow him on Facebook

The 3rd Annual Black Mall Awards was definitely one for the record books! It was a wonderful display of Black Excellence. This year’s awards was at the beautiful Dusable Museum of African American History. The night was filled with beautiful people arrayed in their best coming together to celebrate Black Businesses that have consistently delivered in their perspective arenas. There were 100 Black Business nominees in 20 categories. The evening started off with a flood of people dressed to kill on the red carpet. Everyone was all smiles and the atmosphere was electric, cameras were flashing and red carpet interviews were being done. The cocktail portion of the evening was filled with music and mingling; wine and sweet treats were flowing in abundance. The main event event didn’t disappoint! It was full of energy and accolades that rivaled any awards show that I’ve seen on major networks. Kudos to the Black Mall Team for putting together an outstanding evening of honor. Check out a portion of the show below. ! If you are not familiar with the Black Mall head on over to their website where some of the best in the business are featured. Shop until you drop and recycle some capital! https://theblackmall.com/
As an artist when you find people who you work well with creatively you definitely need to stay connected. Creative people can’t seem to turn their minds off even when they desperately want to rest and recharge. Almost a year ago there was a meeting of minds between the Blue Lady and myself where we talked about youth, fashion and “The Hood” As someone who has worked with youth for many years I am always looking for ways to uplift them. I’ve worked with the Blue Lady on various shoots and have witnessed her level of creativity and it’s astounding. The melting pot of ideas brought The Hood is Your Runway campaign to life! Mizz Wallace as she is affectionately called brought designers and youth together to collaborate with U Can Turn It Around NFP to showcase the youth. The images were beautiful!!!!! Normally when photoshoots are completed you move on and go to the next project but not this time. Being the visionary that she is, the Blue Lady decided to not only bring the ladies on for an encore presentation but she invited other youth to join in. The Youth Fashion Explosion was the first one for Mizz Wallace but not her first time producing a fashion show. She is know for her installations of Curvy Divas which always have the WOW factor! Upon talking to the Blue Lady, one of our many hmmm moments was the fact that there aren’t many events to showcase the youth. If there was ever a time to uplift the youth it is now. Many of them are facing so many adversities that more outlets are needed for them to enjoy their youth. The event was family friendly and full of energy! The children were able to strut their stuff and bring smiles to all that were in the audience. Many of the vendors were young entrepreneurs and the food was all things that young people like. I applaud the Blue Lady for showcasing the youth and can’t wait to see the next installation! Check out the images from the show!
